Houses painted by Churches of Christ! When we put that sign in front of the houses we are painting our work becomes a reflection on who we are. Refection, another “R” word and “R” words were the theme of this year’s camp. My hope is the work we do, which becomes a public setting, is a reflection of who we are and we take pride in the work we do.
I hope we take pride in being a part of the Church of Christ. I remember growing up many of the comments…
You guys are the ones who don’t believe in music…
Why do you guys partake of the Lord’s Supper every Sunday?
Why do you go to church on Wednesday night?
What’s the big deal with baptism?
And a few more comments… Comments that spell out the uniqueness of the church. This week I got to spend time with Eden. As she grows older… and as that village or people in her life that raise her… I hope she is surrounded by Christians that teach her to be proud of and appreciate the church. Paul said often, I am not ashamed… He was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ… he was not ashamed to wear chains and be imprisoned for Christ… he was not ashamed of the marks on his back from the beatings he took… He prayed that Timothy would not be ashamed of the gospel or of him for the life he lived.
I am happy with the sign that we put in front of the houses we paint. I am proud to be a member of the Church of Christ. I look forward to partaking of the Lord’s Supper every Sunday. I like going to church on Wed. nights. I enjoy the music we practice – and it is music – just like the early Christians practiced. And, when it comes to baptism, I know what the Scriptures say, and they can speak for themselves.
It was good to have Jimmy Hinton and Natalie join us this year. It was not my idea and I, for the most part, am against using friends and relatives for church events. However, I was very happy with the directing job which he handled well… and, I knew him to be a hard worker, and knew he would work hard on the job sites – which he did.
Wow! I can’t begin to thank everyone for their help in making this a rewarding week. There are some people who, in my mind, we could not have done the job we did without their help. I talked with many who took vacation time and personal leave too – to paint strangers’ houses! Think about it!!!
