Thou Hast Known Me!

Psalms 139 is a well known and often read passage.   It is a passages that brings comfort to  us.  It says that God knows us!

O Lord, thou has searched me and known me!

Thou knowest when I sit down and when I rise up…

Thou doest know my thought from afar…

Thou art acquainted with all my ways…

Even before there is a word on my tongue… Thou knowest it altogether…

And on and on the psalm goes!

Have you ever known someone so well that you can sometimes predict what they are going to say before they say it.  You can imitate their facial expression… their tone of voice… their mannerism.  You can be Rich Little, the master imitator.

There was a Dennis the Menace cartoon in the paper not long ago that reminded me of Psalms 139. They are unpacking the car just having returned from a family reunion. Dennis says, We went to a family reunion where everyone knew more about me than I did! That’s Psalms 139!  God knows more about me than what I do.

And I’m glad.  That means he knows my heart. Others may misjudge me, but God knows me.  As David says, Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it! (139:6)
