The Mote In Your Brother’s Eye

I like the story of the military inspection that was going on.   The officer

approached a private and gave him the once over.  The first thing that caught his eye was an unbuttoned pocket on the man’s shirt.

Officer: Soldier, button that pocket!

Soldier… turning red… avoiding eye contact looking left and right: Right now?

Officer: Of course, right now.  When did you think I meant for you to do it?

The soldier slowly handed his weapon to the officer, who was taken aback with a puzzled look on his face, then the soldier reached out and buttoned the flap on the officer’s shirt pocket!!!

Have you ever done something similar?  Condemned someone for something that you were at fault for?  Have you ever been talking to someone and not seen the food on your face or not felt the food stuck between your teeth… only to go to the restroom and take a look in the mirror!

Matthew 7:3ff: And why behold the mote that is in your brother’s eye, but not consider the beam that is in your own eye… first take the beam out of your own eye, then you shall see clearly t o cast out the mote in your brother’s eye.
