Exegesis and Eisegesis

In the next coming weeks we will explore the topic of Bible context and its importance. Today, is seems man has become his own Bible. We don’t look for scriptural authority, we are the authority (or so we think). Because we are the authority, any Bible verse can mean anything we want. We live in a world where man does what is right in his own eyes” Judges 21:25

Two words we very rarely hear are “exegesis” and “eisegesis.” These words sum up how we view the scriptures. Let us notice the latter first. Eisegesis is the practice of putting our views into the scriptures – sadly, what most of the religious word does today. Exegesis is the practice of bringing the meaning out the word of God.

When we find scripture’s true meaning, we must teach and promote that and only that.  God has expressed His thoughts in a series of related ideas. When we view His word context is critical.

Next week we will take a look at the “Primary Context.”
