At the Color Run 5K we distributed wristbands that matched our custom tract about the Christian race. The text of both the wristband and tract was Hebrews 12:1 – “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
The Hebrews writer has just finished a long list of faithful individuals from Hebrews chapter 11. Just as those Christians were encouraged, so too, we should be encouraged by all those who chose to do right when doing wrong was so tempting.
The final “let us” in the book of Hebrews reminds us that to run this Christian race we must be letting go of distractions. The distractions of our life only entangle us with regard to more sin. Take notice of what you are involved in and let go of all that is distracting and entangling you. This is the only way you can make your way to the finish line, to your final reward.
