This week I want to start a series that I know will be encouraging: themes in the book of Proverbs. What a better place to start than on the idea of acknowledging God?
1 My son, if you will receive my words And treasure my commandments within you,
2 Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding;
3 For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding;
4 If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will discern the fear of the Lord And discover the knowledge of God.
To acknowledge God is to seek Him through the only way He has revealed Himself – His word. We must receive His words but more than that they must be as treasure to us (v. 1; 4). We must be in prayer over the word of God (v. 3) and when our prayers are answered we must be willing to listen (v. 2).
Only when we earnestly desire the truth of the word will we be able to discover, obtain, achieve a deeper knowledge of God. Do you desire to know the creator of the universe in a deeper way? The only way that can happen is through honest study. The glaring implication from these passages is that we must make time, not only to open our Bibles, but to dig deep.
