This proverb tells us how we can be wise. First, we must be those who hear. Second, we must be those who increase in learning. Notice, that hearing does not directly correlate with an increase in learning.
Third, we must be willing to acquire wise counsel. This is really the message this week. Before we can ask counsel of others the first two points must be in place. Restated, we must be hearers and willing to learn. If we refuse these then wise counsel will benefit us little.
