Themes in Proverbs: Household Distress

The home is synonymous with the family. When someone says of another “He came from a good home,” they mean, that individual came from a good family, based in a values system. In America, that values system is breaking down. The proverbs writers provides some clarification and insight to the home.

Proverbs 17:13 He who returns evil for good,

Evil will not depart from his house.

When we are constantly engaged in evil living, we cannot expect evil to stay out of our home. We will be influenced by evil and thereby, so will our families. The solution to this problem is simpler said than done. We must be consistent – inside our home and out. With whomever we engage, we must be consistent in doing good. Our workplace or our entertainment cannot influence us to leave that path of doing good. Will you be consistent in doing good, in following the will of God, in returning good for good?
